Special Unique Yoga Retreat Location
Punta Monterrey Resort in Mexico

Travel Log by Debora Cohen:

Punta Monterrey yoga resortMy stay in Punta Monterrey Mexico was Fantastic! I left Monday May 9th, 2011, for an easy 3.5 hour, non-stop flight on Alaska Airlines and returned the following Friday the 13th. I did not need to check on any bags since all I needed were swim suits and sun dresses. So... getting in and out of customs was a breeze!

As soon as I walked out of customs, I was picked up by the owner of Punta Monterrey and his daughter. Then we had an leisurely 45 minute cruise through beautiful countryside to the secluded resort. Punta Monterrey was bought 35 years ago by a Mexican family who's daughter became a good friend of mine through yoga and energy therapy. I have been to Mexico and held retreats there several times.

Punta Monterrey Resort BeachWhen I learned about Punta Monterrey and saw the pictures, I thought it looked fabulous! I had been to Costa Rica a couple of times, where the lush jungle surrounded secluded beaches. Punta Monterrey has a similar charm and beauty. We had to drive on a bumpy dirt road through the Jungle to get to the resort, but unlike Costa Rica, the dirt road was only about mile long. Whereas in Costa Rica, the very bumpy dirt roads goes on for miles to reach the charming small towns. The journey to Punta Monterrey was safe, easy and fast to a remote beach with warm ocean water and breezy warm 85-90 degree temperature. When I reached the resort, I had a choice of on of the older bungalow's on the beach, or one of the newer ones on the cliff over looking the beach. I chose the more rustic but adorable bungalow on the beach... and loved it! At night, it was cool and breezy, so did not need to turn on the room fan.

Punta Monterrey yoga resort in MexicoMy daily activities included morning Qigong and Meditation on the beach, swimming, kayaking (with the kayaks the resort provided), hiking, sun bathing, and of coarse, eating! The food was wonderful! It was mostly vegetarian and sometimes fresh fish caught at their beach. We had Mexican cuisine that was fresh and local to that area. We were also provided fresh juices and of coarse tequila, fresh lime margaritas, and coronas! One day I went shopping and surfing at the nearby surfing village called Sayulita. Sayulita is only about 20 minutes away and one of the Punta Monterrey family members manages an activities center. There is every kind of activity a person can think of, such as snorkeling, scuba diving, surfing, fishing, kite surfing, swimming with the dolphins, whale watching (in the winter the hump back whales come to that area to mate), and all of those different jungle activities that we did when we were in Costa Rica.

Punta Monterrey yoga resort beach in MexicoThroughout the week, I felt really cared for and part of the family. The grounds were clean and well manicured. The people that worked there either spoke English or really tried to speak English. Everyone was extremely charming and made sure that myself and other visitor’s needs were taken care of. I always felt safe, which is important since Mexico is getting allot of bad press these days.

The yoga studio is the nicest yoga studio I have ever seen at a resort, and I’ve seen many yoga centers. It was beautiful and very large! It is located on the cliff overlooking the ocean with just a short walk up hill. It is very breezy and comfortable. I practiced yoga and gave energy therapy on a massage table provided by the resort. The room is also used as a conference room, so it is a great place to conduct company teem building trips as well as yoga retreats.

Overall Punta Monterrey is easy to travel to with only 3.5 hours airplane time from California. It is a charming and safe International getaway with a tropical jungle like environment. Great food and lots of hospitality!

So if you are interested in a wonderful getaway on your own please contact the hotel and let them know I referred you.

Punta Monterrey yoga resort in MexicoIf you would like to have a yoga retreat with me, please let me know and let’s get one on the schedule! It sounds like November is a great time to go because it is just after the rainy season. Punta Monterrey is also a certified turtle reserve, and I believe November is when the turtles lay their eggs.

Another great time is Winter time (of course) and Spring, right before the rainy season begins. It is a great place for spring break and just after school gets out for those of you who are teachers or have children.

Give me a call or email if you’d like to find out more or to start planning a fabulous yoga retreat vacation!

Rejuvenating Yoga Breaks

Meeting planners can promote their ROI by providing 15 to 30 minute yoga breaks to Conference attendees. These classes are geared toward people without any yoga background. They are a great way to introduce the rejuvenating benefits of yoga into a daily schedule. It breaks through people's fears or intimidation they may have if they were to attend a regular yoga class. Here, they can have fun with their peers and have a healthy team building bonding experience. Yoga postures promote balance, deep breathing invigorates or calms the mind and body, and the physical movement provides release from tensions and increases mobility. These breaks take place in the conference room, or another inside or outside location if desired. We also offer early morning hour long wake-up classes or later afternoon wind down and rejuvenation classes. Combine the breaks with a spa experience for additional benefits. Delegates will feel energized to get the most out of the conference, training sessions or incentive program. Their bodies will feel enlivened and their minds invigorated. They will return to the office or meeting, renewed and refreshed.

Contact me to find out how to set this up with your company.

Blessings,
Debora Cohen.
